Young Jazz Musicians Performing at PAAM's

Summer Jazz with Bart Weisman Concert Series

Usually it’s Provincetown’s visual arts culture that gets all of the attention. But musical arts have also been a mainstay for decades on the Outer Cape. In fact, back in the ‘50s and ‘60s it wasn’t unusual to find jazz greats such as Miles Davis and Nina Simone performing at Provincetown venues

Today there’s still a lively jazz music scene, which has gained momentum in the last few years with the inauguration of the Provincetown Jazz Festival in August and the Provincetown Music Festival in September. And there are also a lot of young musicians in the area, who have inherited the musical history of the Cape

A concert that will take place on July 16 at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM) is set to showcase the talent of some of these second- and third-generation Cape Cod musicians.

Organized by Bart Weisman, the founder of the music festivals mentioned above, the concert features four young jazz talents, who are all between the ages of 18 and 22. They have all committed themselves to a life of music, and are pursuing musical degrees at various schools.

The evening’s quartet is made up of Tyler Clibbon, Sam Woodbury, Will Slater and Kareem Sanjaghi

Clibbon, a saxophonist, is a second-generation jazz musician. His mother plays jazz guitar, and his parents own the Clibbon Gallery in Provincetown. Sanjaghi, meanwhile, plays the drums and is a third-generation jazz musician, whose grandfather, Bob Hayes, has been performing on the Cape for many years. Woodbury will be on the guitar and Slater on the bass

The concert with young Cape jazz talent will take place on July 16 at 6 p.m. at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. Tickets cost $15. To find out more about the Summer Jazz Concert Series, visit www.paam.org or call 508.487.1750.
