A Jazz Balladeer at PAAM

Steve Wark Performs for the Winter Jazz Series

Most everybody has a favorite crooner. For many it’s Frank Sinatra, for other old school loyalists it’s Bing Crosby or Perry Como. And then there are those of more recent vintage, such as Harry Connick Jr.

But, whoever it is, it’s not likely that you’ve had the chance to hear them or many other balladeers sing in a setting that is up close and personal. On March 17, there will be one such opportunity at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum when the jazz vocalist Steve Wark performs.

Mr. Wark, who will be making his Cape Cod debut in this performance, sings in a style that has been influenced by Sinatra and Connick Jr., as well as Mel Torme and Michael Buble. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, he has been a regular performer in the New England area since the late 60s and has appeared as the featured vocalist with the Craig Ball White Heat Swing Orchestra, the Bo Wineker Orchestra and other groups. As befits his vocal style, Mr. Wark generally performs songs from the Great American Songbook and sometimes accompanies himself on the drums.

For this performance, which is the last in the PAAM Winter Jazz Series, he will be joined by Steve Hershman on piano, Marshall Wood on bass and Bart Weisman on drums.

Now in its second year, the Winter Jazz Series at PAAM is hosted by Mr. Weisman, a local Provincetown drummer who is also the founder of the Provincetown Jazz Festival. The jazz series brings artists from outside the Cape area to Provincetown during the quiet winter months. The series’ concerts are free and open to the public.

Steve Wark will perform at PAAM on March 17 at 2 p.m. PAAM is located at 460 Commercial Street. To find out more about the concert, call 508.487.1750.
